on the fly!

this client asked for a growth chart for her good friend's nursery - and she's flying all the way to FL to pick it up! ok that may not be entirely accurate - but she is flying to FL and i did make this one somewhat 'on the fly'!

my client is surprising her friend with a visit next weekend and also surprising her with a growth chart designed (i hope) to match baby sean's nursery. what a great friend!

here's the nursery (taken on the sly so i could get an idea of what it looked like). so cute!

so i'm hoping this chart fits in...

hooray for happy clients!

i always like to hear that my clients are happy with their purchases. this particular client sends me a list of items she'd like for upcoming birthdays/events, etc. she knows the drill by now - what i'm going to ask, what details i need to know - and then i go to town picking out colors and quotes and embellishments.

this request was for a frame for a "5-year-old girly girl" who is full of energy and fun. since i was most definitely NOT a girly girl, it's a lot of fun to play around with pinks and purples for these kinds of requests!

this frame was fun - made for a little guy who is obsessed with Marvel Super heroes - Superman, Batman, Spiderman, etc. i had a hard time finding spiderweb embellishments (guess they are only really popular around Halloween) so I hand-drew the spiderwebs.

this request was a tough one. the frame below was made for a 7 1/2 year old boy named Jack who is fighting Cancer (Neuroblastoma) for the second time. "Jack loves playing guitar and thinks he's a rockstar - his favorite band is 'All American Rejects'" i chose the word "Believe" for two reasons - one obvious one is that Jack has to Believe that he's tough enough to beat Cancer again and also because the "All American Rejects" have a great song with that title.

i hope Jack likes his frame and puts a cool picture of himself rockin' it out to one of AAR's songs! in the meantime, i'll be putting Jack on my prayer list that he does in fact find Courage and Strength to defeat Neuroblastoma again.

letters L, M & N (and S!)

the letters are such a popular item these days - and make such a unique, personal yet affordable gift for birthdays. letter M was made for a "mature 7 year-old who loves the color purple".
so purple it is!

letters N and L were made for a set of twins (boy and girl) who turned 3 in january...

and letter S is for a sweet little girl who turned 3 in February!

sweet mia!

i was so honored to be asked to make this chart for a mutual friend's little girl who turned one this past weekend! i was on vacation when the request came in but i got to work on it immediately and was able to get it on it's way to NY in under 3 days. phew!

now i'm posting this before sweet little mia receives her gift in hopes that mom and dad don't happen to check out my blog before then. mia just turned one and is a girly-girl already so a trendy polka-dot theme seemed appropriate for the little princess.

happy birthday, mia!

photo cube for 'grammy'

this photo cube was made for "grammy" who was going away on a retreat weekend. her family was asked to write her a letter or send some photos to let her know how much she means to them. this family ordered a photo cube and i was happy to be a part of such a special and unique gift! i'm still waiting to hear how grammy liked it!

update: grammy loved her photo cube - "we made her cry - in a good way!" :)

growth charts

when i was asked by a good friend in NY to make her daughter a 'dora' growth chart, i didn't have a clear vision of how i wanted the chart to turn out. when I started painting the scenery, it just sort of came together. i knew i was on the right track when my own two little guys walked in and said, "is that a dora one, mommy?" before i even had 'dora' or 'boots' on the chart!

happy birthday, alexis!
